Mergers and acquisition: an emerging trend in the technology industry

Posted

The Vue team went to the IASA 2019 annual conference expecting to stand out due to their recent acquisition but found several other companies in the same position. There were some significant acquisitions in the technology vendor industry in 2018 and this trend appears to be continuing in 2019.  Some significant acquisitions last year include:

  • Adobe acquired Marketo: Industry watchers expect Adobe Experience Cloud’s features combined with Marketo’s lead management and marketing technology to do wonders.
  • Oracle acquired Datafox: Oracle’s acquisition of Datafox—an artificial intelligence startup which analyze business data and offer business predictions—is expected to eliminate necessary but tedious work for professionals and enable them to make important decisions more quickly, possibly leading to competitive advantage.
  • Salesforce acquired Datorama: The acquisition of Israel-based Datorama which uses artificial intelligence and the cloud for marketing intelligence and analytics is a gamechanger for Salesforce users. “Our acquisition of Datorama will enhance the power of Marketing Cloud with expanded data integration and intelligence, enabling marketers to unlock insights across their marketing channels and data sources. With one unified view of data and insights, companies can make smarter decisions across the entire customer journey and optimize engagement at scale,” said Bob Stuzt, Chief Analytics Officer and CEO Of Marketing Cloud, Salesforce.
  • Duckcreek acquired Outline: Duckcreek now offers Outline’s flagship product, now branded as Duck Creek Distribution Management. Duck Creek Distribution Management (previously ProducerOne) continues to be sold to carriers and MGA/MGUs as an independent product.

According to the latest survey in Deloitte’s annual study of M&A activity, companies are turning away from purchasing a company simply for its technology. Instead corporate respondents note an increased focus on buying a company in order to expand. So as a part of this ongoing industry trend the Vue team looks forward to a smooth integration with our new team and phenomenal results from our combined solutions. We send a special thanks to our booth visitors and look forward to seeing you at our Vertafore booth in 2020.
