Insurance Compliance News: Services May Be Suspended at The Office of the Insurance Commissioner in Washington State

On the website for the Office of the Insurance Commission for Washington state, there is a link that takes you to details about a possible suspension of services beginning July 1, 2017.  The reason for the suspension is due to the Washington State Legislature not yet approving state operating and capital budgets for the 2017-2019 biennium, which begins July 1, 2017.

If the legislature does not enact budgets by July 1, “state agencies will have to implement full or partial shutdowns.”  While everyone is hopeful it will not come to this, Producer Licensing Services will be affected.  I spoke with the Producer Licensing & Oversight Program Manager, Jeff Baughman, and he said, “If we shut down, I’ll be on unpaid leave until it’s resolved.  Of course, if the shutdown occurs, its impact will affect future business, as turnaround times will be greater due to down time.

Again, everyone is hopeful that the legislature will do its job to approve the state operating and capital budgets and prevent any shut downs and state employee unpaid leave.  Keep an eye on the link below on or after July 1, to see the outcome.
